School Council
All Government schools in Victoria, apart from the Distance Education Centre Victoria, have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of a school within centrally provided guidelines. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students.
Our School Council has a total of twelve members and three categories of membership: a parent category (six members), a DET employee category (four members); and a community member category (two members). The council meets at least eight times per year.
Our School Council has four sub-committees and welcomes members of the community to be involved in the sub-committees. Our sub-committees are:
- The Community Engagement Sub-Committee aims to develop and foster positive relationships within the school and the broader community. The Sub-Committee is responsible for the development and implementation of the ENPS community engagement and communication strategy, and guides and actively participates in the implementation of this strategy, including community building events, fundraising activities and school celebrations.
- The Continuous School Improvement Sub-Committee aims to oversee the review and development of all school policies, and ensure policies are consistent with the Guiding Statements, the Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan of Essendon North Primary School.
- The Finance Sub-Committee aims to develop the school’s annual budget with the support of the principal; ensure that the annual budget supports the school strategic plan; regularly monitor and report to council on progress against the budget and assist the principal in ensuring that the school operates to a balanced budget and that all liabilities and financial commitments are brought to account in the relevant year.
- The Learning Environments Sub-Committee aims to improve the outdoor learning spaces for students and the community. The committee has developed and is overseeing the development of a school wide master plan, and regularly seeks funding opportunities and grants that provides additional resources to the school. The committee aims to provide an inclusive, effective and stimulating learning environment for the Essendon North Primary School community.
